Thursday, May 15, 2025 New York, NY – Steve Shaw, Managing Director at Seaport Global, is an avid squash player and introduced the Firm to CitySquash, an amazing organization that serves low-income students in the Bronx and provides them academic support along with the camaraderie and life lessons of team sports.

Last fall, Seaport Global hosted the students for a mock interview day to prepare them for the application process to boarding schools and colleges.  Our team shared best practices for interviews and allowed each student an opportunity to practice telling their personal story in a safe and supportive environment.

Laura Schwartz has been instrumental in connecting with the students and has mentored many from CitySquash over the years.  Along with the interview day, Steve also hosts Career Day events where professionals play squash with the student and chat with them about careers in finance in particular. The students are all very engaged and, as you can imagine at this point in their life, trying to figure out the different paths that are interesting and open to them.

Seaport hosted an intern, Jesse Brew, from the CitySquash program. Jesse is at Amherst College majoring in Math and playing on the squash team and has already been offered a position for Summer 2026 at RBC Capital. We are pleased to have been able to support his professional development through our strategic partnership with this transformative organization.

Our efforts the year, culminated in our support of and attendance at their annual CitySquash Bash.  This fundraiser was a great night celebrating the organization’s work this year. We remain so inspired by the event and the personal testimonies of the students impacted by the organization.

Seaport established a strategic partnership with City Squash in 2020. Our mission and purpose are to together aide underserved students in the advancement of their academic, personal, and professional growth. This year, we are especially excited to celebrate the opening of CitySquash’s new building, The Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center. The organization has raised over $14M to build their own home that will allow them to more than double the number of students they serve. The building will have classrooms, offices, and six squash courts. We look forward to visiting CitySquash at their new center, trying out their squash courts, and continuing to support them as they grow.
